Agriturismo Romitorio, on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, is near to Castiglione del Lago, only 5 kilometres from Lago Trasimeno.
The agriturismo is open all year round: it counts eleven apartments, each with its own separate kitchen.
The farmhouse is in an ideal position for excursions to Siena, Montepulciano, Cortona and Chianciano Terme. The area is rich in art and history, museums, churches and religious shrines.
Valdichiana is a treasure trove for lovers of italian foods. Highlights are the prized Chianina meat and Pienza’s ‘cacio pecorino’ cheese. Some of the best wines of Italy come from the neighbouring area: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Chianti dei Colli Senesi and Brunello di Montalcino. The local oil mills provide the chance to sample the estate’s freshly-pressed olive oil.
At only 20 kilometres away Chianciano Terme is home to the hot-spring temple of the Terme Sensoriali, a modern spa for restoring energy, balance and well-being.
For lovers of the countryside of Tuscany there is a lovely 64 kilometre route from Chiusi to Arezzo, on the banks of the Chiana canal, along the Sentiero della Bonifica, at 4 kilometres from our estate: it's an ideal place for walking or bike excursions for the whole family.
The nearby town of Montepulciano, a real Renaissance jewel, has reinvented itself for movie lovers as the location for the film ‘New Moon’.
Meanwhile the UNESCO world heritage site of Pienza is also worth a visit for its wonderful Sant’Anna in Camprena, the former fifteenth-century Olivetan Benedictine monastery where key scenes from ‘The English Patient’ were filmed.
Sports-lovers can go horse-riding, walking, play golf, sail, surf and partake in other seasonal activities around the agriturismo.
